Obituary:
Travis Lee Baker, 21 of Taylorsville, NC died June 24, 2009.

Travis was born July 10, 1987 in Catawba County; he was the son of Carroll Dwayne and Patricia “Trish” Hughes Baker. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 2005, where he played football and baseball. He loved fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by a son, Takoda Chilton Baker and his maternal grandfather, Leroy Hughes.

Survivors include his parents, Carroll Dwayne and Patricia “Trish” H. Baker of Taylorsville; brothers, Brandon Baker of Taylorsville, NC, Jerry Sigmon, Jr. of Claremont, NC and Aaron Sigmon of Claremont; paternal grandparents, Carroll Wayne Baker of Hickory and Linda Kaye Johnson of Taylorsville; maternal grandmother, Mona Lee Hughes of Conover; paternal great grandmother, Lula Hughes of Hickory; uncles, William David Hughes of Conover and Phillip Cavender of Nashville, TN; aunt, Monica Leigh Wheeler of Cherryville, NC; nephews, Jesse Cavender, Preston Hitchcock and Cody Wheeler; and God parents, Trina & Jerry Sigmon, Sr. of Claremont.

A service of remembrance will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate and entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.

Pallbearers will be Angel Rodriquez, Sr., Alex Rodriquez, Angel Rodriquez, Jr., Billy Little, Aaron Sigmon and Jerry Sigmon, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:45 pm on Thursday at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.

Human remains were discovered this week and is believed to be that of Travis Lee Baker a press conference is schduled for Thrusday, June 25th at 2:00 pm for recent developements in this case. Please pray for his family.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Hair trimmed short.
Four tattoos: Red and black tribal bands on left and right
upper arms, the name “Haley” on his chest, his last name “BAKER”
in capital Old English letters on his back.

Details of Disappearance
On April 16, 2007, Travis Baker was scheduled to work at 5:30pm at MDI, a food distribution company in Caldwell County, North Carolina. He never showed up for work and his last two paychecks were never picked up.

Anyone with information on Baker should call the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at 465-8301 or the CUE Center for Missing Persons at (910) 343-1131 or the 24-hour hotline at (910) 232-1687.

This turtle was found in the woods while on a search for a young man in North Carolina, a day later his remains were located; since his murder arrest have been made and a successful prosecution followed.

CUE aiding in the solving of 28 year old cold case, now working for better laws to serve cases such as Melinda Harder who was missing from Saint Petersburg, Florida and long time childhood freind of CUE founder, Monica Caison.

Reward offered for missing 19-year-old

NEWPORT – Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for any tips in the case of a woman who disappeared last week.

Megan Maxwell, 19, was last seen April 26, 2009

Gov. Phil Bredesen authorized the reward late last week from state funds for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of “any person responsible for (her) disappearance or death.”

Police say they have a “person of interest” in the case but have filed no charges.

Maxwell, described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 115 pounds, had been driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was found burning the morning of April 26 on U.S. Highway 25/70 by a passing off-duty Newport officer, according to Newport Police Chief Maurice Shults.

Further investigation showed that Maxwell was still alive at 4:27 a.m. that morning, when she called a friend to let her know that she was leaving her father’s home in Newport after checking in on him, Shults said.

“She’d gotten a call that there was something wrong with him,” he said. “She called her friend and said, ‘I’ll finish this cigarette, and I’ll be that way.’ ”

Maxwell’s car was found only a few feet from a riverbank, and “some leads have indicated some activity at the river” before the car burned, Shults said.

Police say they’re pursuing several leads and thus far don’t believe her disappearance was related to “domestic violence or anything like that.”

She was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans with holes in the fabric.

CUE’s Founder Monica Caison (center) receives two award presentations in honor of missing persons

In March of 2009 a similar package arrived and similar information, however bringing our center to West Virginia for a young girl named Samantha Burns, missing also in November of 2002 and also a part of the crime spree this inmate created after his escape from an Kentucky jail of that same time frame. But CUE was not as hopeful as the information was cloudy at best and the area being an entire highway. After sixteen day of extensive search efforts we have still not brought “Sam” home but remain determined in doing so for her family and case resolution.
