Family fears missing 3-year-old was taken to Mexico
July 30, 2007
Investigators believe a dad who allegedly kidnapped his three-year-old son from North Portland may have fled to Mexico.
The boy’s mother told police that Jesus “Chu Cho” Leyva took their child despite an existing restraining order preventing him from having contact with the toddler.
Investigators said Leyva was unstable and may hurt his son, Jesus Mendoza. In addition, family members warned that Leyva may kill himself and Jesus if confronted by police.
A cousin later admitted to police that he gave Leyva a ride to Central California with the boy. He said he dropped the pair off at Merced, Calif. on Thursday, July 26. He said the boy had not been harmed and Leyva was trying to escape into Mexico.
