Details of Disappearance
Degree resided with her family in an apartment on Oakcrest Street in Shelby, North Carolina in 2000. She was last seen inside her home at approximately 2:30 a.m. on February 14, 2000. By dawn, her parents were unable to locate her anywhere in the house. At 4:00 a.m., she was seen by motorists walking along North Carolina Highway 18 in Shelby, North Carolina.
In August 2001, a book bag bearing Asha’s name and phone number was discovered along NC 18, the same highway where she was last seen. A pair of men’s khaki pants and bones thought to belong to an animal also were retrieved from the search.

Family of Asha Degree still hopeful 11 years after disappearance
Asha Degree was nine years old when she walked out of her home near Shelby in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day, 2000. Motorists saw the young girl walking highway 18 at 4 a.m., but she was never to be seen again.
