Circumstances of Disappearance
On the evening of February 23, 1999, Star Boomer was patron of Uncle Mike’s Bar at 49th and Metropolitan in Kansas City, Kansas. Boomer had gone to the tavern with her roommate. The friend had a drink and headed home, planning to return in a few hours to pick up her roommate. When she arrived at the bar, she was told that Boomer had left with two men.
Witnesses say Boomer was involved in a violent altercation with a man believed to be lifelong criminal with a history of violent behavior, particularly toward women.
At one point during the evening, Boomer allegedly was knocked to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness, she has not been seen or heard from since that date. On February 28, the roommate reported to police that her friend was missing.
Investigators said it was believed that Boomer was killed in the bar and her body was dumped elsewhere.
Two men were arrested and charged with second degree murder, but were later released and charges dismissed because witnesses did not come forth.
Boomer grew up not far from the bar. She was going through a divorce at the time, but remained optimistic. Two decades after dropping out of Turner High School, she was studying to earn her high school GED, and she hoped to start her own business as a florist. She was planning to move to Spring Hill to live with her parents until she could get back on her feet. Boomer left behind a 3-year-old son.
